Discover the cultural and historical significance of the birchbark canoe and its important role in the lives of Indigenous Peoples, particularly the Anishinaabe.
Through this engaging, hands-on experience, participants will learn how birchbark canoes were traditionally crafted using natural materials and how they served as essential tools for transportation, trade, fishing, and connecting communities across waterways.
Guided by an Indigenous facilitator, participants will assemble and decorate their own miniature birchbark-inspired canoe using cardstock, while exploring the ingenuity, craftsmanship, and traditional knowledge passed down through generations.
This interactive workshop combines creativity, cultural learning, and storytelling, offering participants a deeper appreciation of the relationship between Indigenous Peoples, the land, and the waterways.
