Felt Poppy Workshop

Honour the spirit of remembrance through a meaningful, hands-on workshop that combines creativity, cultural education, and reflection.

In this engaging experience, participants will explore the history and significance of the poppy as a symbol of remembrance, while learning about the important contributions and sacrifices of Indigenous Veterans who served in Canada's military, including during the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War.

Guided by an Indigenous facilitator, participants will create their own handcrafted felt poppy while discovering the courage, resilience, and dedication of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis service members. The workshop also provides an opportunity to reflect on the unique challenges Indigenous Veterans faced, including discrimination and unequal access to certain benefits and recognition following their service.

Through storytelling, creativity, and meaningful conversation, participants will gain a deeper appreciation for the contributions of Indigenous Veterans and the importance of ensuring their stories are remembered and honoured.

Each participant will leave with a handcrafted felt poppy, serving as a personal symbol of gratitude, respect, and remembrance.
